Subtitle: From the Perspective of Statistical Education Required at Universities

In recent years, the importance of data science education at universities has been increasing. Consequently, students are expected to acquire statistical literacy by the time they graduate from high school. In Japan, since the 2020 academic year, the statistical domain has been expanded in the curricula of elementary, junior high, and high schools, placing greater emphasis on statistical education. However, there are variations in instructional content, and many challenges remain. In particular, there are significant difficulties in acquiring the statistical literacy required by universities, especially in terms of critical thinking skills.

This lecture will provide an overview of the current state and challenges of statistical education in Japanese primary, secondary, and high schools. Additionally, I will explain the direction of statistical education required by universities based on statistical questions in university entrance exams.
