Overview
About the Department
The Department of Statistics and Applied Probability (DSAP) was established in 1 April 1998 and renamed to Department of Statistics and Data Science (DSDS) on 1 July 2021 with the goals to advance statistical and data science, and, ultimately by its application, to improve and provide adequate services to our community.
Teaching
The department offers two Bachelor of Science degrees; in Statistics and, Data Science and Analytics. In addition, DSDS also offers degrees at both Masters and doctoral levels. These programmes are appropriate for the student who has a mathematical or statistics background. The undergraduate curriculum offers students the most needed probability and statistical knowledge; the graduate programme prepares them to conduct research and scientific investigations in collaborative environments. Our department runs short-courses for adult learners as well. Our CET team has a suite of SSG-approved courses for upskilling and keeping up with the data revolution. For more information, refer to the relevant sections of our site.
Research
Our distinguished faculty members possess a wealth of experience in various areas of statistics and data science, including statistical methodology, data analysis, machine learning, and beyond. Their research covers theoretical and practical perspectives and they work in collaboration with professionals from diverse disciplines to tackle real-world challenges. For more details, do visit our site pages on individual faculty members.
Consulting
The Data Analytics Consulting Centre (DACC), a sub-unit of DSDS, provides statistical consultation and data analysis services. For more information, please refer to the Consulting page of our site.
