Inc. and organized by the Department of Statistics and Applied Probability
of the National University of Singapore.
This competition is held in conjunction with Science.07. Our partners
include A*STAR (Agency for Science, Technology & Research)
and the Singapore Science Centre.

What
is a Statistics Poster?
A
statistics poster is a display that uses graphs to summarize data, present
different points of view and answers question(s) about the
data.

- Category 1:
Secondary 3 and 4
- Category 2:
Junior College Year 1 and 2
The winning posters will be be exhibited at the
Singapore Science Centre.

Prizes
Entries may be submitted in the following two
categories: Secondary 3 to 4 and Junior College Year 1 to 2.
If
the submission is a collaborative effort, the cash prize will be divided
among the team members. In addition, each team member will receive
a certificate and a medal.
In each category, the prizes are:
First Prize:
$200 cash, certificates and medals
Second Prize:
$150
cash, certificates and medals
Third Prize:
$100 cash,
certificates and medals
Two Honorable Mentions:
$50 cash,
certificates and medals
Certificates
of Merit for entries of quality
Certificate of Participation for
each participant
In
each category, the school that submitted the top entry will receive
a software set from SAS Institute.

Evaluation
The
panel of judges is made up of statisticians in academia and industry,
whose decisions are final. They will be judging the posters on
- Research Skills
1. Carefully focused research question
or questions
2. Appropriate data and analysis used
3. Valid conclusions drawn
- Presentation & Communication Skills
4. Overall visual impact of the display
for eye-catching appeal and visual attractiveness.
5. Clear demonstration of important relationships and patterns
and obvious conclusions.
The posters
should be self-contained and meaningful with minimal explanatory notes.
6. Creativity and neatness.

Entry
Rules
1.
Poster must be of A1 size.
3-Dimensional poster will not be accepted.
2. Any layers of paper on posters must be affixed
securely. The poster should be suitable for hanging.
3. Posters must be the original design and creation of the participants
themselves. Computer graphics may be used.
4. Subject matter is the choice of the participant(s) or their classmates.
A listing of the original data, brief description of method of data
collection and purpose of the experiment should also be taped to the
back of the poster. Please cite references for published data.
5. Submit the entry form with the poster. Be sure the poster itself
gives no information that identifies the team or school.
6. Students may work individually or in teams. The maximum number of
students per team is four.
7. All posters submitted become the property of the sponsor and partners
and will not be returned. By submitting a poster entry, participants
agree that the poster may be displayed by the sponsor and partners and
featured in their publications.
There is no registration fee and the participants can submit their entry
forms with their posters. The submission deadline is
20 July 2007.
Students will work on their entries under their teachers' supervision.
