Conference in honor of Professor Bai Zhidong on his 65th Birthday

The one-day conference on Advances in Statistics in honor of Professor Bai Zhidong on his 65th birthday will be held at the Auditorium, University Hall, Level 2, National University of Singapore on July 20, 2008, immediately following the 7th World Congress in Probability and Statistics which is to be held in Singapore from July 14 to 19, 2008. The conference is jointly organized by the Department of Statistics & Applied Probability, National University of Singapore, and the School of Mathematical Sciences, Northeast China Normal University. The organizing committee consists of Chen Zehua (NUS), Hu Feifang (University of Virginia), Shi Ningzhong (NCNU) and Zhang Jin-Ting (NUS).
Professor Bai was in the first batch of 18 PhDs in the history of the People's Republic of China whose degrees were conferred by the State Council of PRC in 1983. He has been an elected fellow of the Third World Academy of Sciences since 1989, an elected fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics since 1990. He has worked as a researcher and professor in University of Pittsburg, Temple University, National Sun Yat-sen University at Taiwan, Northeast Normal University, China and the National University of Singapore. In his long career as a prominent statistician, he has made a great contribution in various areas of Statistics. He has published three monographs and over one hundred papers. His contribution to Statistics and influence in the profession are internationally well recognized.
The one-day conference will provide a cozy and memorable occasion for Professor Bai's academic friends, co-authors, former colleagues and students, and the like to share their precious experience in research, in education, and in human life as a whole. Special Issue
Pre-announcement from Science in China Ser A
Science in China Ser A has agreed to devote a special issue to papers inspired from the Conference on Advances in Statistics --- in honor of Professor Bai Zhidong on his 65th Birthday.
The special issue is not intended as a Proceedings volume; rather, it will serve as a venue for conference speakers and participants as well as others to publish their high quality papers. The papers could be original research papers or survey papers. All the papers must be prepared in English, and will go through a screening and review process for possible publication.
Professors Zehua Chen (National University of Singapore) and Feifang Hu (University of Virginia) will serve as the Guest Editors for this special issue. The guest editors will be responsible for the refereeing processes. The Journal editor, Professor Qihua Wang, will be responsible for the final approval process. The deadline of submission is October 31, 2008. The paper should be submitted to Professor Feifang Hu (fh6e@virginia.edu) in the form of pdf file.
